Mother of a 11J prisoner will denounce her son’s case to UN officials

MIAMI, United States. — Ailex Marcano, mother of the political prisoner and 11J protesters Ángel Jesús Véliz Marcano, arrived today in Geneva (Switzerland) to denounce the repression suffered by activists and opponents in Cuba.

The Cuban Observatory of Human Rights (OCDH) reported that Marcano arrived in that European city accompanied by lawyers from the organization and by representatives of pro-democracy groups.

“I have traveled to Europe to denounce the case of my son and of all Cuban political prisoners. On behalf of the mothers and the detainees, I ask for greater international pressure on the Cuban regime, so that our children get out of jail, where they should never have been simply for demonstrating,” said the mother of the inmate, sentenced to six years in prison. for demonstrating in the city of Camagüey.

The delegation of activists is made up of Alejandro González Raga and Yaxys Cires, executive and strategy directors of the OCDH; the Lady in White Bertha Bueno; activists Amable Casas Pacheco and Manelyn Morales Lazo; the Christian pastor Enrique Fundora Pérez; and the lawyer Edel González.

During its stay in Geneva, the delegation will meet with officials linked to the United Nations Human Rights Council.

“We will present reports related to the repression against minors and about the arbitrary arrests that have occurred and other repressive actions against activists. In addition, we will focus on the regulations issued by the Cuban regime regarding the violation of due process in the latest judicial procedures,” explained González Raga.

The OCDH points out that accredited media and agencies in Geneva can request interviews with Ailex Marcano until Thursday, April 28. A day later, the mother of the political prisoner will offer a press conference in Madrid, where she will also address the human rights situation in the Caribbean country.
