MIAMI, United States. — Eradis de la Rosa, mother of Yoennis Dominguez de la Rosasentenced to five years in prison for filming the popular lynching against a rapist in Santiago de Cuba, denounced the difficult situation his son is facing in prison.
The alleged crime committed by Domínguez de la Rosa was to publish on social networks the popular brawl that took place in the Nuevo Vista Alegre neighborhood of Santiago on February 10, 2020.
That day, the residents of that town tried to lynch Alejandro Wilson Correa, responsible for raping an eight-year-old girl. The offender, however, was arrested and taken away by the military.
Although the event seemed to stop there – the rapist would later be sentenced to 30 years in prison – Domínguez de la Rosa was included in a group of nine people who ended up accused of starting the confrontation between the neighbors and the police, and then disseminating the images of the event.
Finally, the young man and other witnesses to the brawl were sentenced to five years of internment correctional work. Now, her mother has raised her voice to demand her freedom, while she denounces the living conditions in prison.
Eradis de la Rosa points out that in the more than two years that Yoennis has been in prison, he has suffered all kinds of harassment.
“They tortured him, they put him to sleep for 21 days on the floor. My son was urinating blood, he had an inflammation of the prostate” and a lieutenant colonel told me that “dogs are not given medical assistance,” the mother told CubaNet.
The woman points out that the hospitalization of her son has left her with serious psychological damage, and that she even had a fall —including a fracture— that has worsened her quality of life.
“I tell the mothers: if we do not unite, if we do not let the world know about the pain, the suffering that we have in this country with our children, with torture… If we are afraid, they kill our children,” said Eradis de the Rose.
