In the latest report published by the Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), it was confirmed that to date, there are 2,197 cases of malaria, 248 cases of leishmaniasis, 958 cases of dengue and one of Chikungunya, all these diseases. caused by the bite of an infected mosquito.
The health authorities reiterate the call to the population to eliminate breeding sites and keep the areas of their communities sanitized to prevent the spread of the mosquito.
In detail, the Minsa indicated that in the case of dengue, there are 958 confirmed cases throughout the country and they are broken down as follows: 841 cases without warning signs; 113 with warning signs; 4 cases of severe dengue and no deaths have been registered.
The regions with the most positive cases are: Colón with 182 cases; Panama Metro with 177 positive cases; West Panama with 118 cases; North Panama with 111 cases; San Miguelito with 110 cases; Bocas del Toro with 69 cases; Herrera and Los Santos with 57 cases.
Regarding malaria cases, 2 thousand 197 cases of malaria accumulated to date have been confirmed; being the Guna Yala region with 860 cases, Darién with 686, the Ngäbe Buglé region with 419 cases and East Panama with 119 cases, the sectors with the most positive cases to date.
Regarding Leishmanianis, 248 cumulative cases have been confirmed so far in 2023; of which there are 37 active cases, with seven confirmed in the Ngäbe Buglé and Coclé region; six (6) confirmed in Bocas del Toro and Panama West, three (3) cases in Panama West; four (4) cases in the Panama Metro region; Colón with three (3) cases and with only one case, so far, are the regions of Darién, Panama East, Kuna Yala and Panama East.
One (1) case of Chikungunya remains in the North Panama area (Alcalde Díaz sector). No case of Zika has been registered in the country.
