In contrast, four of the five mayoralties with the lowest perception of insecurity In the city they are led by the opposition coalition PAN, PRI and PRD: Benito Juárez, with Luis Mendoza Acevedo; Cuajimalpa, with Carlos Orvañanos; Miguel Hidalgo, with Mauricio Tabe, and Coyoacán, with Giovani Gutiérrez. The exception is Milpa Alta, whose mayor is the Morenoist Octavio Rivero.
However, the perception of security has improved in the capital in recent years: according to the ENSU, until September 2024, 52.1% of the inhabitants of Mexico City considered themselves unsafe, while in the same period of the year 2023 was 57.4%.
The change stands out more compared to September 2018, when the perception of insecurity in the city was 82.1%, which is why it has been reduced by 30 points over the last six years.
The Head of Government, Clara Brugada, called on the 16 mayors of the city to collaborate on security matters.
“The coordination of the three levels of government is what will guarantee that this great city continues its downward trend in high-impact crimes in general.
“In security there should be no colors, no one can partisan insecurity or security, I believe that today we are called to join forces in the face of the climate of violence that is experienced throughout the country,” said Brugada on October 7, when installing the Security and Justice Cabinet.
