Senators from Morena deplored that the government of President Donald Trump further hardens the policy that criminalizes migrants and resorts to such questionable methods as employing bounty hunters, which is why they called for joint work by the federal Executive and the Legislature to protect fellow citizens.
“We have to guide our countrymen in the face of the new onslaught that violates their human rights,” commented Senator Manuel Huerta Ladrón de Guevara, while his colleague, Guadalupe Chavira, considered that support measures should be reinforced, in addition to condemning in international forums this inhumane policy towards those who “with their work have contributed to the development and wealth of the United States.”
“This strategy of hate against migrants and the citizens of the world is regrettable, of a Trump who increasingly escalates his tactics of violence. We are very aware that he will continue to pay millions of dollars as a reward to those who search for and deliver undocumented workers and that is why we must increase protection measures for our countrymen in the United States,” commented Huerta Ladrón de Guevara.
He explained that the Senate must take action on the matter and assess what parliamentary and other diplomatic measures they should take in the face of this decision to even use industrial warehouses to confine 80,000 migrant workers there, since this violates international treaties and conventions on human rights.
For her part, Chavira de la Rosa considered that “it is immoral” for the government to commercialize “the detention of undocumented migrants and allow companies to enrich themselves with it”, so it is time, she declared, to recover all diplomatic means to dialogue and show that the United States benefits from the work of migrants, since the economic contribution of Latinos alone reached 1.6 trillion dollars in 2023.
“It is important to insist again and again that migrants are not criminals and cannot be treated as if they were. They are workers who came to the neighboring country to the north in search of a better life, today I am a fundamental support of the US economy,” he stressed.
