In the process of renewing the leadership of Morena, a sector of the party objected that the Secretary of the Interior, Luisa María Alcalde Luján, who aspires to the position, is not a national councilor, so the National Executive Committee is analyzing the possibility of including her as an emeritus councilor, as well as figures such as Héctor Vasconcelos, Elena Poniatowska and the governors.

Members of the CEN explained that the route for the internal process has not yet been determined, nor have the requirements for the call been defined, and they are analyzing whether only the president and general secretary and some portfolios or the entire committee will be elected.

So far, Mayor Luján is the only one who has expressed her interest in leading the party, of which she is a founder, and it was explained to this newspaper that if she alone registers, the call and the process will not be a tailor-made suitThey even considered it possible for other candidates to register.

Every week, the CEN meets to define the scope of the process, for which different routes are being analyzed. By October 1st at the latest, there must be a new leadership, as a result of a resolution by the higher chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation. In addition, Morena seeks the same before the inauguration of the virtual president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum.

Both the party president and the general secretary, Citlalli Hernández, have remained in their positions also due to a ruling by the electoral magistrates, who authorized an extension.

It has not yet been decided whether Morena’s fourth national congress (initially scheduled for the first half of September) will be extraordinary or ordinary, and in the case of the National Council, it could be renewed or expanded, or it could hold assemblies to elect councilors for the electoral districts.

That is to say, within the framework of the statutes, we are analyzing the possibilities for calling for renewal, and whether only the presidency and the general secretary or some other portfolios are renewed. No decision has been made, we will continue in talks.the sources said.

They also explained that being a national councilor is not achieved only in the district vote, but there are emeritus national councilors, who have demonstrated not only seniority, but active militancy, being founders, and the National Council can be opened, depending on who registers, or even the National Congress can change the statutes in the event that the requirements are expanded.

–Could the secretary come in there?

–It could be, if we define being a national councillor as a requirement in the call for applications. It also depends on which other colleagues register. We want to strengthen the figure of the party president and not leave any valuable colleague out of the process.
