Morena and Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) in the Chamber of Deputies clashed yesterday over the ruling of the specialized chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF) in which it determined that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, and the coordinator of the Guinda party in San Lázaro, Ignacio Mier, committed political and institutional violence for describing opposition legislators who voted against the electricity reform as traitors to the country.
Mier and the coordinator of the EMECist federal deputies, Jorge Álvarez Máynez, crossed signs. The second accused the first of acting in a childish way, and the latter turned him around by asking him to behave like an adult.
After the TEPJF ruling, the morenista reiterated that those who voted against the aforementioned reform are traitors to the homeland.
Álvarez Máynez responded on his Twitter account: I am not bothered by the debate on the electricity reform or on any other issue, congressman. But treason is a crime that is not committed for thinking differently. And you do not have the right to slander, even if it seems funny to do it again (it is childish).
He stressed that the court ruling derived from an appeal filed by him. “Not because of the ‘old regime’ of which, by the way, you were a part for decades, as were the most exalted figures of this regime. And still, I will always debate with you respectfully and without slandering you.”
Mier rebutted him on his Twitter account: Dear Jorge, we can discuss everything, even what is slander, treason and childishness, to do so start by behaving like an adult. It’s not slander, it’s recommendation. Being against the interest of the people is treason
.
Álvarez explained that he will continue to debate this topic with respect, although I repeatedly came across this level of discussion
