After having finalized the reform to the Judicial Branch of the Federation and after the withdrawal of the protest of dissatisfied workers who surrounded San Lázaro for nine days, the Chamber of Deputies is preparing to approve in the coming days the initiatives related to the rights of indigenous peoples and the management of the National Guard (GN).
As the coordinator of the Morena bench in the chamber, Ricardo Monreal, has pointed out on several occasions, the reform on the subject of indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples is one of the priorities of the majority parties, and with it they would be recognized as subjects of public law
and not only of public interest
as they currently appear.
The initiative, which will be discussed in the middle of next week, explains that the proposed modification to article 2 of the Constitution seeks to have governments assume their responsibility to develop, with the participation of the peoples concerned, coordinated and systematic action with a view to protecting the rights of indigenous peoples and ensuring respect for their integrity
.
The above is possible, the proposal specifies, if the communities They are recognized as subjects of public law, because otherwise they cannot exercise rights such as receiving public funds, exercising them and fulfilling the corresponding obligations.
.
Once this reform is approved, it is expected that the cherry party and its allies in San Lázaro will address the one related to the GN, in order to return the operational and administrative control of said corporation to the Secretariat of National Defense.
