Morena adds deputies and achieves qualified majority in the Congress of Mexico City

In the first ordinary session, after the election of the board of directors, where the Morena deputy Martha Avila was appointed as president of Congress, the creation of parliamentary groups was announced, where Morena and its allies will have 46 of the 66 votes in Congress, two more than the qualified majority.

Before adding more deputies to their bench, Morena and allied parties obtained 43 seats in Congress, which gave them a simple majority, since they did not have two-thirds of the votes (44 out of 66) to approve reforms to the law and even approve the person in charge of the local Prosecutor’s Office, an issue that the Third Legislature will have to resolve.

However, this Sunday, as Martha Ávila announced, Morena has already achieved a qualified majority, which opens the door for them to approve any legal and constitutional reform.

“Deputy Silvia Sánchez Barrios has decided to join the work of transformation in this third legislature, with whom my colleague Lety Haro has confirmed a parliamentary partnership. We would also like to welcome our friend, comrade from Tlalpan, Deputy Luis Chávez García, who is joining the work of transformation,” said Xóchitl Bravo.
