More works! Bogotá receives endorsement and $4.2 billion for 25 road projects

The IDU was approved $4.2 billion for the development of 25 mobility infrastructure projects and resources to meet the five conservation goals for the road network, public space and bicycle infrastructure for the rest of the four-year period.

“We are very grateful to the Bogotá Council for the vote of confidence it has given me to the Urban Development Institute (IDU). We have just been approved 4.2 billion pesos for 25 key infrastructure projects for Bogotá, also including the conservation of the road network, not all of it, but we are prioritizing so that Bogota residents can have better mobility, more security and improve the quality of life”, indicated the director of the IDU, Orlando Molano.

Among the new projects, a total of nine stand out: Suba-Cota Avenue, which will improve access along the northwestern edge of the city; the Tibanica vehicular bridge, which will facilitate access between Bogotá and Soacha; Jorge Gaitán Cortes Avenue, four cycle infrastructure projects, among others.

Likewise, relevant works for the mobility of citizens will continue, such as Mutis Avenue (63rd Street), NQS Avenue with Bosa Avenue, the road interchange on 80th Street and Laureano Gómez Avenue between 170th and 193rd Streets. They included Las Villas Avenue Phase I between streets 147 and 153 and the studies and designs of the second stage up to street 170.

For his part, Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán, showed satisfaction after the approval of the debt quota by the Council: “The debt quota approved today by the Bogotá Council will allow us to make important investments to meet the needs of Bogotá residents in terms of mobility, housing, security, health, education and culture, recreation and sports. “I want to thank the Council for having held the discussion with dignity and thinking about the general interest of the city, especially the speakers and the presidents, both of the Finance Commission and of the Plenary Assembly,” said the mayor in X.

Conservation projects

1. Road mesh conservation (conserve 1,550 lane kilometers of the road network)

2. Public space conservation (conserve 1,046,300 m2 of the pedestrian infrastructure network to improve urban mobility and promote sustainable transportation).

3. Cycle infrastructure conservation (conserve 95 linear kilometers of the cycle infrastructure network)

4. Conservation of vehicular bridges (reach 46 vehicular links (8 built; 8 reinforced; 30 preserved).

5. Conservation of pedestrian bridges (conserve 126 links of the public space network for universal mobility)

With the approval of these resources, more than 7 million inhabitants of the city and surrounding municipalities will benefit, approximately 12,000 direct jobs will be created and the coordination of the Bogotá-Region will be strengthened:

“The Institute of Urban Development (IDU) is making an effort to deliver the projects that are coming and those that are being executed. We have to work day and night for this new responsibility, today we have approved the debt quota for new projects (…) the Council is giving us a vote of confidence and we cannot be less than this responsibility, we have to fulfill all Bogota citizens: “remove polyshadows as requested by Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán, but above all deliver projects with responsibility, honesty and transparency so that they become a reality for Bogotá,” concluded director Molano.
