This March 23, the expansion of the Paluguillo treatment plant came into operation, which is expected to serve nine rural parishes.
The inhabitants of nine rural parishes of the northeast of Quito will benefit from the expansion of the Paluguillo Potable Water Treatment Plant. It is expected that with this, more than half a million people will no longer suffer shortages in the Cumbayá, Tumbaco, Puembo, Pifo, Tababela, Checa, Yaruquí, El Quinche and Guayllabamba parishes.
This work is the second component of the Chalpi Grande-Papallacta project and was carried out with an investment of 18.3 million dollars, which increases the water purification capacity from 600 to 1,600 liters per second.
The Chalpi Grande-Papallacta project was financed by the French Development Agency (AFD), an entity that granted a creditwithout sovereign guarantee, for 70 million dollars for the integral execution of the project.
the mayor of QuitoSantiago Guarderas, together with the French ambassador to Ecuador, Frederic Desagneaux, representatives of the AFD, manager of Epmaps, Othón Zevallos, representatives of the parish GADs and the beneficiary community, toured and inaugurated the work.
Ambassador Frederic Desagneaux stated that France is very committed to the entire country, in favor of water and sanitation. He added that he has several projects developed with AFD and one of them is the Chalpi Grande-Papallacta. “We are proud and happy to be members of Epmaps. Today translates into the inauguration of this work at the service of the northeastern parishes of the District”, expressed the Ambassador.
Patricia Brito, president of the Tumbaco parish GAD, thanked the authorities for the work delivered. “The drinking water it is essential for the life of the human being, and with this work we can improve the quality of life for people who live in the rural sector”, he affirmed on behalf of the beneficiary parishes.
