Santo Domingo, DR. – The movement of passengers on the occasion of the end of the year celebrations exceeds that registered during Christmas Eve and Christmas in the well-known “Stop 9”located at kilometer 9 of the Juan Pablo Duarte highway.
Since the early hours, dozens of people have gathered at the place with packages in hand, accompanied by family members and children, ready to move to different provinces of the country and say goodbye to the year with their loved ones, even under the rainy weather that has predominated in Santo Domingo.
“Let’s enjoy with my family, enjoy,” said a visibly excited woman as she boarded a bus bound for Villa Tapia, reflecting the festive atmosphere that existed among the travelers.

According to the statements of one of the carriers on the Cibao route, the increase in passenger flow has been notable, especially towards Cibao communities, where many residents of the capital have family roots.
Drivers and users agree that the influx through New Year It is greater than that registered in the Christmas festivities with destinations towards the areas of Santiago, Moca, San Francisco de Macorís, Salcedo, Cotuí, as well as those from the South who go towards San Juan, Elías Piña and the East.
Tickets without increase
Despite the increase in demand, transportation prices remain stable, as confirmed by several travelers consulted. Araceli De la Cruz, who was heading to Villa Tapia to share the holidays with her daughter, assured that the cost of the ticket has not changed.
“It’s still cheap, they have it the same, they haven’t raised it,” said De la Cruz, specifying that he paid RD$300 for his trip.

However, he noted that he has not verified other routes and that, each year, he chooses his destination based on availability and the cost of transportation.
The rain doesn’t stop the party
Despite the warnings issued by the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), as well as the alerts issued by the Emergency Operations Center (COE) in which the green alert was placed in nine provinces for possible flooding due to a trough that affects the Dominican territory, those interviewed were enthusiastic about traveling to say goodbye to the year with their loved ones even under the intermittent rain that is recorded.
“Let’s share and enjoy,” one of the passengers stressed from kilometer nine.
Due to the festivities, carriers have chosen to maintain the usual rates during the season, a measure well received by passengers who travel to say goodbye to the year with their families.
