The general secretary of the MAS, Felipe Mujica, assessed as positive the proposal for an amnesty law announced by the person in charge of the Executive. He affirmed that it must go beyond a decree and lay the foundations for reconciliation and institutional reconstruction
The national secretary general of the Movement towards Socialism (MAS), Felipe Mujica, spoke in favor of the creation of an amnesty law and recalled that the organization has requested for the last 15 years a solution for political prisoners in Venezuela.
Mujica described the initiative announced by Delcy Rodríguez as positive, considering that it represents a “golden opportunity” not only for the release of political prisoners, but also for moving towards peace, reconciliation and national unity.
“If we are going to talk about amnesty, reconciliation and peace, we have to lock the rearview mirrors and look ahead,” he stated, while maintaining that the success of the measure will depend on the willingness to go beyond a simple decree.
The leader pointed out that the law should also make it possible to resolve the situation of judicialized parties and address cases such as that of the MASwhose electoral card was withdrawn. He insisted that the solution to the crisis must be electoral, but preceded by a process of institutional reconstruction and unitary articulation of political forces.
Finally, Mujica called to take advantage of the moment to promote political and economic rectifications that allow the incorporation of all sectors of society in the reconstruction of the country.
