According to data released by the official website of the health entity, to date, 10 million 624 thousand 686 Cubans have received at least one dose of one of their own vaccines Sovereign 02, Sovereign Plus and Abdala, including those who have a single Sovereign Plus administration, convalescing from the pandemic.
Of those more than 10 million, nine million 386 thousand 163 have the second injection of one of these products and nine million 67 thousand 259, with the third.
Likewise, the fourth booster dose was applied to some 6,169,912 inhabitants of the country.
Until March 19, 35,248,586 administered doses of any of the three already approved vaccines have accumulated in the country.
Recently, the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, called for speeding up the pace with booster vaccination in the Caribbean nation, given a slight increase in the numbers of those infected with Covid-19 during the last 15 days.
Dr. Eduardo Martínez, president of the BioCubaFarma business group, specified last Saturday that a study had begun on the current state of immunity of the population, which will have two stages: an initial one that includes around 20,000 people —the first to received the reinforcement—and whose results should be in the next few weeks.
“We have to specify well at what time another booster is needed, whether after six months or a year, because it should not be abused either, since tolerance to the antigen can be created,” he said.
Cuba is at the head of the number of booster doses in the world administered by population size, according to data from the Oxford University statistics site, Our World In Data.
