More than half of the voters disapprove of the management of President Trump of the archives related to the late financier and sexual criminal convict Jeffrey Epstein, according to a new survey.
The survey of Emerson College Polling, Published Friday, it revealed that 51 % disapproves of the management of Epstein archives by the administration, while 16 % approves it and a third is neutral.
The results are known at a time when Trump has struggled to erase this controversy, which has been extended for a few weeks since the Department of Justice (DOJ) indicated that he would not publish more files related to the case.
Trump advocated the publication of archives with an alleged “client list” throughout the 2024 presidential campaign. Shortly after assuming the position, he issued an executive order that demanded the declassification of certain federal secrets.
Attorney General Pam Bondi declared in February that the list was on her desk for review.
However, the Department of Justice was the subject of scrutiny by members of Trump’s own support base, due to a memorandum published earlier this month in which it was declared that Epstein committed suicide in 2019 and did not maintain a list of customers.
Epstein committed suicide in his cell while waiting for the trial for sex trafficking, but conspiracy theories have extended that they could have been murdered. Multiple evaluations carried out since Epstein’s death determined that he committed suicide.
The Department of Justice also indicated that it did not plan to disseminate additional information from the archives so as not to reveal personal details about the alleged victims of Epstein’s actions.
The deputy director of the FBI, Dan Bongino, who previously argued that there was more information about Epstein’s history than the government had admitted, said he had seen all the archives and concluded that Epstein committed suicide.
But many Trump supporters have asked for the publication of the documents, while the Democrats have joined the controversy to demand their publication and the Trump administration faces continuous questions.
Trump himself has faced even more controversy after a report from the Wall Street Journal which indicates that Bondi informed him in May that his name appeared several times in files related to Epstein, along with that of many other high profile.
The inclusion of a person’s name in the files is not by itself an indication of irregularity.
Emerson’s results coincide with other survey findings such as Reuters-PSOS and the University of Quinnipiac, which have revealed that most voters disapprove of the management of the archives by Trump.
The survey also revealed that 42 % believe that Epstein was killed, while only 20 % believe it committed suicide and 38 % said they were not sure.
The percentage of those who claim that he was killed is 4 percentage points lower than that of five years ago.
The survey was conducted from July 21 to 22 between 1,400 registered voters. His margin of error was 2.5 points.
