The general director of Social Management of the Intendencia de Cerro Largo, Mauricio Yurramendi, He presented an exhaustive balance of the social policies implemented in the department during the last period. Its management has been characterized by a strong emphasis on support for education, housing and food security, achieving significant results that directly impact the quality of life of the citizens of Cerro Largo.
An impulse to education
In the educational field, the Municipality has implemented an ambitious student scholarship program that has benefited more than 600 students. Each scholarship consists of an economic support of $ 4,000 per month for 10 months, representing substantial aid for families. To this significant number are added another 100 additional supports that include passages and food for students residing outside Cerro Largo, thus facilitating their access to higher education.
Concrete housing solutions
Social management has prioritized the improvement of housing conditions in the department. More than 1,000 housing solutions have been executed, covering a wide range of interventions. From the construction of new houses for large and low -income families, until comprehensive spare parts, including the repair and construction of bathrooms, the replacement of roofs, the installation of windows and the improvement of sanitation. The creation of black wells and septic chambers in neighborhoods that lacked these basic services have been carried out, significantly improving the health and quality of life of its inhabitants. This extensive work has reached more than 80 neighborhoods of Melo, demonstrating a firm commitment to equity and social development.
Yurramendi emphasized: «We have worked in the more than 80 neighborhoods of Melo, and in each of them housing improvements, spare parts, ceiling changes, bathrooms, and other improvements have been made. The work is permanent and seeks to reach those who need it most. “
Food security: an unwavering commitment
Food security has been another fundamental pillar of management. During the winter months, the program was implemented «Hot dish», A project that guarantees food delivery to the most vulnerable families. This initiative has had the valuable support of the private sector and various local institutions, strengthening public-private collaboration for the benefit of the community. In addition, there has been a food distribution system of food, picnings and milk drinks on weekends in the most needy neighborhoods, ensuring regular access to nutritional foods for children and families in vulnerability.
Community collaboration
The director Yurramendi highlighted the importance of collaboration with the community: «We collaborate with Iglesias, social centers, neighborhood clubs and also health houses, giving a weekly help with a remittance both in Melo and Rio Branco. These health houses sometimes serve older people or in complicated situations, providing a very dignified activity, but with a very fine economy that needs support. To do this, we have created a store of warehouses that provides dry food, meat, and other products. In addition, having masons, health and electricians, we can help with damage or solutions that these homes need. »
Student scholarships: an investment in the future
In reference to the scholarship program, Yurramendi explained: «We talked to the scribe Sandoval, who was the mentor of this project, very well received by the mayor from the beginning. We propose it to the Departmental Board in our five -year budget and since the first year we are giving more than 100 annual scholarships of $ 4,000 per month for 10 months. This means that more than 500 or 600 students benefit from this economic support. While it seems little, for the economy of parents it is considerable help. In addition to the scholarships, we provide another 100 additional support with passages, food and other needs to students who need extra help. »
