CDMX, Mexico.-In just the first thirteen days of the year, 1,115 Cubans were repatriated, the newspaper published today Granmathe main organ of the Communist Party of Cuba.
This figure represents 9% of those returned in 2022.
“As part of the bilateral migration agreements established by Cuba, this Friday, January 13, the return of 38 irregular migrants by air channel, coming from the Bahamas, was carried out. With this flight, in the first 13 days of 2023 there are a total of nine operations with 1,115 returns,” the text of the official body begins.
Those returned Cubans are added to a total of nine return operations that have already been carried out this year. “Six were maritime by the US Coast Guard Service (SGC) with 970 people; two airlines from the Bahamas with 129 and another from the Cayman Islands with 16”, details the newspaper.
The largest of these operations occurred last Sunday, January 8, in the port of Matanzas, when 273 people who had participated in illegal exits from the country were forced to return to the island.
As usual, the regime disclaims all responsibility in this unprecedented exodus and blames only the United States. The text also states that the economic difficulties the country is going through are a consequence of the “blockade”. They do not mention the proven inefficiency of the system or the limitations that power imposes on the economy.
The Cuban government and its propaganda organs make invisible the multiple causes that drive Cubans to migrate and point only to the advantages that the island’s nationals have on US soil.
“A more rational policy on the part of the United States and full compliance with the signed migration agreements demonstrated, in 2017, that it is possible to drastically reduce the irregular, disorderly and insecure emigration of Cuban citizens to US territory,” Ernesto told the referenced outlet. Soberón, director of Consular Affairs and Cubans residing abroad of the Ministry of Relations (MINREX).
