To report crimes, ask for help or request support in emergency situations, these were the reasons why the National Operation Center (CON) received, during 2022, one million 600 thousand calls from citizens.

The Coordinator of the National Operation Center, Ronald Jaén, pointed out that the use of technology allowed more than a thousand people dedicated to carrying out thefts with skills (pickpockets) to be detected during 2022, of which 750 were prosecuted.

Commissioner Jaén reported that from the monitoring centers nationwide, it was possible to detect 140 people for fraud, 1,345 for damage to private property and 63 for fraud. The capture of 3,061 people for robbery and theft was achieved, 849 firearms and 1,485 vehicles were recovered with reports of robbery or theft.

“The complaints to 104 allowed the capture of 299 for sexual harassment, 251 for attempted rape and 103 for cases of rape. In addition, 11,805 cases of domestic violence were attended, 84 for abuse of the elderly and 96 for abuse of minors,” reported Jaén.

More than 24,000 people were detained during 2022 for cases of disruption to peaceful coexistence. Most of these people staged fights in shopping malls, public areas, and in communities.

Through the Panic Button tool, integrated into video surveillance centers nationwide, it was possible to recover 1,355 minors who were lost in recreational and commercial areas, to later be returned to their parents.

So far this year, through the Plate Reading tool, the recovery of 1,686 vehicles that maintained a robbery and theft report was achieved. In addition, more than 4,000 people were arrested for theft and 1,965 for robbery.

According to the authorities, for this 2023, the inauguration of the San Miguelito Operation Center is planned, which will have more than 400 video surveillance cameras and that of Chepo with more than 120.
