More than a book

More than a book

“Ancestral Homemade Culinary” mural inaugurated in Zorrilla Park

The Government of Cerro Largo, through the Gender and Diversity Area, left the cover of the publication Culinaria Casera Ancestral stamped on one of the exterior walls of the Summer Theater.

In this way, the aim is to give greater visibility to the work that was presented in the previous period within the framework of a ceremony that took place at the Club Unión de Melo.

“This mural is a kind of tribute to Vanesa Vega for being one of the mothers of this project, articulated at the time by the United Nations Population Fund” stood out Marion Vidal.

“This inauguration of the mural is within the framework of the Ancestral Homemade Culinary Book project that seeks to make this project more visible, which is by Afro-entrepreneurial women from Cerro Largo.” highlighted the person in charge of Gender and Diversity of the Municipality. “It is not a common recipe book” he pointed out.

Next to the mural, a plaque was installed where there is a QR Code through which the publication can be accessed with the aim of massifying its content. “We want people to see that it is more than a recipe book. We tried to ensure that these women who participated in the book could also tell their story, how the knowledge of the culture was transmitted from generation to generation” he stated. “Having access to the book we will learn about the experiences, resistance and resilience of people of African descent in our environment” broad.

Marion Vidal commented to THE PROFESSIONAL Radio that this project has other stages. It will not be limited to either the book or the mural that was inaugurated late in the afternoon of this Tuesday, December 16. “Workshops are constantly being held in the CAIF Centers and in educational institutions to bring the population closer to everything that is Afro-descendant culture, an extremely rich culture that is the basis of what our society and our community is today” he remarked.

PARTICIPATION IN VARIOUS COMMITTEES

The Gender and Diversity Area of the Government of Cerro Largo is actively participating in different areas.

“We have been working hard, we have extensive participation in Interinstitutional Roundtables. In reality, our work is also about maintaining good articulation with other institutions because we always have to work as a team. It is very difficult on our own. By articulating we always achieve a little more.” he stated during the live interview.

“The instances are very good, beautiful bonds are formed with people from the other institutions. There is an excellent exchange and a lot of respect, which is essential, even more so when rights issues that are so sensitive are discussed.” projection. “There do not have to be political-partisan differences, it is a common good” said.

PREPARATION OF THE BUDGET

Another of the challenges that the Municipality in general and this area in particular is facing is the preparation of the next five-year budget that will be submitted to the Departmental Board.

“We are working on strategies and projections for the next 5 years. The idea is to maintain what has been done, polish other things and plan new activities to start leaving the comfort zone” said Marion Vidal.

“We want to work a little more in the territory, go out to visit the Municipalities and above all emphasize internal work, with the officials of the Municipality itself to ensure that everything flows” he concluded.
