The crimes of extortion, in the modality of sexual origin, are the ones that register the most complaints in Panama, as was announced by Captain Christian Ortega, a specialist of the Judicial Investigation Directorate (DIJ) of the National Police.
He explained that sexual extortion occurs when the subject or an individual requests intimate photos and videos from a person and they are sent through digital platforms, either social networks or WhatsApp, a situation that is used by extortionists to obtain money in exchange for that these are not disseminated.

So far this year, the Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office has received 95 complaints about this type of extortion, 11 operations have been carried out, and more than 25 people have been apprehended.
