More than 900 circumscriptions in the second round for municipal elections in Cuba

A total of 925 constituencies returned to the polls this Sunday in Cuba to complete the second round of the elections in which they elect representatives to the municipal assemblies of Popular Power.

The elections are held in the localities where on November 27 there was no selected candidate. To be elected, he must receive 50% plus one of the total votes. He will exercise his mandate, in a non-professional way, for five years according to the agency Latin Press (PL)

According to authorities of the National Electoral Council (CEN), five million 728 thousand 220 voters cast their vote in the first rounda figure that represents a participation of 68.58%, the lowest since 1976 when this type of voting began on the Island.

Only 89.11% of the ballots were valid, of which 5.22% corresponded to blank votes and another 5.67% were simply not validated for different reasons.

The abstention was historic according to analysts, as it reached 31.42% and the average participation in the previous elections had remained above 90%.

The results showed that 11,502 Cuban men and women were elected as district delegates.

The elections on November 27 were the first after the restructuring of the Cuban electoral system and the promulgation of a new one under the Constitution approved in 2019, points out PL.
