The General Department of Irrigation (DGI) of Mendoza launched a tender for the modernization of the Hijuela Esteban Irrigation System, which will have an investment of more than $600 million from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The work -which will have an execution period of twelve months- will be erected in the Mendoza river basin and includes the lining of 10 kilometers of the riverbed and the construction of a reservoir, among other important components with the main objective of improving the efficiency in the distribution of water.
This project is an update of part of the plan formulated in Irrigation, with the collaboration of external consultants, called “Modernization of Derivative Networks of the Final Sections of the Canal Cacique Guaymallén-Río Mendoza-System Esteban-Tulumaya”.
The geographical area of influence of the project is located in the north of the province of Mendoza, mainly in the districts of El Algarrobal, El Borbollón, El Pastal (in Las Heras), and Jocolí Viejo (in Lavalle).
A total of 1,724 registered hectares correspond to this irrigation zone ylThe direct beneficiaries of the project will be 171 users of the irrigation system.
Argentina received a loan from the IDB to finance the cost of the Provincial Agricultural Services Program IV. Within this framework, the province of Mendoza -through a subsidiary loan contract- managed to carry out the work for the Cacique Guaymallén Canal First Section Revetment.
This will now allow part of the funds from this loan to be used to make payments under the “Project: Hijuela Esteban-Río Mendoza Irrigation System Modernization” Contract. SEPA PROSAP-IV-522-LPN-O.
