The Municipality of Quintero announced that a total of 67 people, including students and teachers, have shown symptoms of possible poisoning. Because of this, classes have been suspended and the corresponding environmental measures taken.
Around noon, the medical staff of the Quintero Hospital was activated due to the increase in medical attention from the Don Orione and Costa Mauco schools, where 19 teachers and 48 students reported discomfort. Consequently, it was decided to suspend classes at about 2:00 p.m.
As a result of this situation, the Critical Episode Management protocol has been reactivated in the areas of Concón, Quintero and Puchuncaví, which has forced companies to adopt measures in their corresponding operation plans.
The Seremía de Salud de Valparaíso, in the company of the personnel of the Quintero satellite office, the Risk and Disaster Management Unit, the municipal Department of the Environment and the Superintendence of the Environment (SMA), arrived at the assistance center to attend the situation.
Through Twitter, the Superintendence of the Environment announced that “an inspection is being carried out on the ground, especially the Copec TPI Operational Plan.” Meanwhile, those affected are still in the process of evaluation by the health personnel of the Quintero Hospital.
