In the third quarter of last year, 59,470 companies were registered nationwide, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI). This result, according to the economist and professor at the University of Piura Brenda Silupú, meant an increase of 114.6% compared to the same period in 2021.
The aforementioned increase was the highest since 2014, when the reports began to be prepared.
The economist explained that “INEI takes into account companies registered in the Central Directory of Companies and Establishments, which is updated with the register of companies registered with Sunat.”
According to the aforementioned report, as of the third quarter of 2022, 65,734 companies have been registered (new companies) in the country and 59,470 have been cancelled.
The UDEP teacher points out that 11 departments have a negative variation in the third quarter of 2022. “The number of companies created or registered is less than those that were deregistered,” she said. Among these, Piura registers 2,827 new companies and 6,565 terminated.
In his analysis of the report, Silupú Garcés points out that the businesses that have closed or canceled their activities “come from companies that sell food, construction materials, and hardware; agriculture and personal services. Regarding its structure, 60.4% are companies constituted as natural persons, 12.5% are individual limited liability companies; and 10.8% are associations, among which are the majority of those that have ceased to operate”.
Regarding gender, in Piura, 54.5% of registered companies (constituted as natural persons) are led by women; and 52.8% of those discharged, in the same modality, are led by men.
