More than 53% of Colombians use mass transportation

People are increasingly returning to their pre-pandemic life. Going back to study, work and go out to have fun has made the different industries recover their green numbers.

(Vehicle tax: when to pay and how to consult it).

In the workplace, Colombians went from 100% remote jobs, to the hybrid model, which now takes more space in the office and translates into more hours of the week outside the home.

With this, people have had to go back to work on a regular basis.

According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane), in its most recent Social Pulse survey, The people of the 23 main cities of the country, mainly use the urban bus to get to their places of work (29.1%).

In the ranking, it is followed by the preference for using the articulated mass transportation system, in the case of Bogotá (19.9%), especially used by women 22.1% versus 17.9% men.

(61% of motorcycles in Colombia do not have the current Soat).

In third place is the preference for going to work on foot (19.6%), which, as in the articulated system, is a modality used above all by women (22.1%).

At a very similar level, use the motorcycle to go to the office or workplace (19.1%), and unlike the other means of transport already mentioned, this is characterized by being especially used by men (24.8%), a figure much higher than that of women (10.6%).

In the case of the private car, the survey showed that only 11.7% of workers use this means of transport to get to work. This trend, as in the case of motorcycles, is mainly used by men (14.1%), a figure that is almost double that of women 8.1%.

The bicycle, for its part, was located with 7% (a representative figure), and among the data it is evident that it is mainly used by men (10.1%), a figure five times greater than that of women (2.3 %).

This means of transport is much larger than others. For example, only 4.9% of people have decided to travel by motorcycle taxi, mainly women (6.6% compared to 3.7%).

Under this position, there is the metro, and because currently in Colombia there is only the Medellin metro, only 4.2% of Colombians use this means of transport. This figure reaches 7.3% in the case of women.

In the case of the use of digital platforms or private vehicles To get around like a taxi, Uber, Didi, among others, only 3.3% of Colombians use it as a means of transportation to work.

The figure is barely half of the previous one (1.7%) in the case of transport provided by the company where people work, being used mostly by men (1.8%) compared to women (1.5%). ).

Finally, the Dane has discriminated against the category of people who move with skateboards or electric bicycles, being only 0.20% of Colombians.
More than one transport

And it is that although 84.8% of Colombians use only one means of transport to get to their workplace, 10.8% of people use two. Even 3.4% of people use three types of transport and 1.0% use up to four.

Regarding the time that Colombians spend in the means of transport, the report assures that the average is above 46.1 minutes on the commute to work, however, the time is longer for women (48.7 minutes) compared to men (44.4 minutes).

By transportation system, the gold medal goes to the mass transportation system, where people say they spend 83.3 minutes on their way to work (the average).

In second place is the electric bicycle or skateboard. In this means of transport, people spend an average of 58.9 minutes. And the subway is not far behind, as people say that on the way to work they spend about 54 minutes. In the case of those who travel on foot, it takes an average of 51.2 minutes to go to work.

Closing the top 5 is the urban bus, and despite the fact that it is the transport system most used by Colombians, it is not the one in which people take the longest (52.2 minutes). Finally, by taxi, Uber or other platforms, people take about 47 minutes.

Combinations to go to work

Among the preferences for those who need more than one means of transport to get to work is the use of traditional bus and on foot as the preferred one (11.9%).

In turn, 10.5% of the people who use two types of transport do so by means of the traditional bus and articulated mass transport. Likewise, 8.8% of people decide to go to work by subway, they also use the traditional bus.

In this combination, 6.7% of those who use more than one transport also use taxi-Uber-DiDi or another platform in the company of the traditional bus to get to work.
