Leticia Gómez, Vice Minister of International Tourism, indicated that more than 5,000 Cuban tourists have visited Margarita since March 2022, thanks to the charter flight program activated between both nations to boost tourism
The Vice Minister of International Tourism, Leticia Gómez, reported through her account on instagram that since the operation of charter flights between Venezuela and Cuba began in March 2022, more than 5,000 Cubans have traveled to the island of Margarita, in the state of Nueva Esparta.
Gómez, in a post published on the aforementioned social network on Tuesday, February 21, recalled that the air operation to bring Cubans to Margarita is part of the Ministry of Tourism’s strategy to position Venezuela as a tourist destination.
Until February 3, the Ministry of Tourism recorded the arrival of 4,834 Cuban tourists, which means that, since then, at least 166 people from the island country have visited Margarita, popularly known as the Pearl of the Caribbean, located in the region of New Sparta.
For her part, the president of the Chamber of Tourism of the insular entity, Viviana de Vethencourt, recently considered that the arrival of international tourists is positive because it helps boost the economy and allows other nations to consider Venezuela as a destination to be harnessed.

The Venezuelan Executive took the flag of tourism as part of a strategy to receive non-oil resources in the country, after considering that it is not possible to depend directly on oil income both due to the issue of climate change, and to seek money other than not be sanctioned by the United States.
TO mid-Januarythe government of Nicolás Maduro presented the tourism potential of Venezuela to the great powers of the sector in the framework of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2023 that was held in Madrid, Spain.
The head of that portfolio, Alí Padrón, then said about meetings with different actors as soon as he arrived at the event attended by some 8,500 companies, representatives from 131 countries and more than 755 exhibitors of tourism products and services.
Another example of this was the arrival, in more than 15 yearsfrom a European cruise ship to the port of El Guamache in the state of Nueva Esparta with 498 German, Austrian and Swiss passengers.
