Relatives do not know whereabouts of detained ucevistas and audiovisual producers

Two UCV thesis students and two audiovisual producers have been detained since October 31, after being approached near the Tocorón prison. A group of personalities requested his release and that his physical and emotional integrity be guaranteed.

More than 500 artists and academics requested to guarantee the immediate release of Katiuska Castillo Vázquez, Noel Cisneros, Ingrid Briceño Venegas and Marcela Hernández Guerra, the thesis students and audiovisual producers who were detained on October 31 around the Tocorón prison.

“We urgently call on the competent authorities to provide us with clear and precise information about the situation of our colleagues, who are thesis students at the Central University of Venezuela and renowned film producers,” they noted in a statement.

The group of personalities demanded that their physical and emotional integrity be guaranteed, while calling for “solidarity” and joining the cause to demand justice.

Katiuska Castillo and Noel Cisneros are thesis students at the School of Arts of the Central University of Venezuela and are developing their final degree project. Ingrid Briceño and Marcela Hernández are audiovisual producers and collaborate on the project.

«This project represents a creative activity that seeks to explore and reflect on our present. It is essential to highlight that this activity is completely free, does not cause harm to anyone and is carried out within the framework of the law,” they indicated.

They described the group as being “highly trained” people with an “invaluable” commitment to cultural development.

«They have dedicated their time to enriching our artistic panorama and contributing to the strengthening of cultural identity, through their work in cinema and other artistic manifestations. Their absence not only affects their families and friends, but also leaves a void in the country’s cultural sphere, where their voice and talent are essential,” they reaffirmed.

Castillo, Cisneros, Briceño and Hernández were approached by guards at the Tocorón prison after allegedly taking some photos of the prison. They took their ID cards and told them they had to wait. After six hours they were arrested by Sebin officials. They told their relatives that they were taken to Helicoide, in Caracas, but at that place they were denied information.
