More than 50% of people, in the task of cutting expenses

The economic situation and inflation are issues that have Colombians worried. And while 64% of citizens are positive about the economic situation in their home, 26% say the same about the country’s economic outlook.

(‘Everything is expensive’: the foods that raised inflation in June).

This is part of a study by Kantar Insights that collects insights into open-ended questions about how people in general feel and worry, how they react to these concerns, and who should be responsible for addressing them.

The study says that the main structural disorders are war, the economic emergency and the impending climate crisis, which appear alongside social aspects such as poverty, inequality, crime and the way we are governed.

As a response to concerns about the economy, Colombians were found to be leaning toward recector their general expenses (52%) above the global one and it is the main action that they have already carried out.

(Cúcuta, Valledupar and Bogotá: cities that drove inflation).

In addition, 36% evaluate canceling and/or stopping doing some things, and 29% have reduced the consumption of some brands or some of the products they bought.
“Both in Colombia and globally, people are considering reducing expenses mainly in luxury, social or entertainment aspects; 66% luxury items, 56% entertainment, and 52% in social activities”, says the study.

INFLATION COUNTS

For the expert Leticia Navarro, managing director of Kantar Insights, Colombia is considered a country with a positive mentality even above the global data, in fact, 86% of Colombians have positive feelings on a daily basis.

Nevertheless, social problems (45%), climate change (37%), and inflation (7%) are issues that they believe are priorities to solve.

According to the analysis of the specialized firm, 82% of Colombians consider that the responsibility to help solve the country’s problems lies with the government, and 50% that the responsibility lies with the people in general.

According to the analysis, in Colombia the increase in inflation is above the global total.

And he points out that, especially, it is having an impact on savings for future life events, children’s education and plans for moving and/or changing cities or countries. 87% of people in Colombia have been affected in some of their long-term life plans, and 58% plan to save for big events in later life.

Likewise, “We identified that in Colombia people anticipate an increase in inflation and feel worried, 77% feel negative since they anticipate an increase,” Leticia Navarro said.
