More than 46 thousand students have received visual attention in INABIE programs

Santo Domingo. – The Institute National of Student Welfare (INABIE) highlighted the achievements achieved during this Government through its National Student Prevention Program in Visual Health and Eye Surgeries (PRONSAVICO)an initiative that promotes, identifies and treats visual conditions with the aim of mitigating deficiencies that interfere with learning and, thereby, reducing school dropouts caused by these limitations.

The institution reported that, in the last five years, it has served 46,193 schoolchildren, delivered 12,430 corrective lenses and made 47 eye surgeries.

So far in the 2025-2026 school year, INABIE has carried out 8,605 visual evaluations, delivered 4,160 lenses and carried out 30 clinical or surgical procedures, reflecting a continuous commitment to the ocular health of the student body.

When valuing the importance of visual health care for students, the director of INABIE, Adolfo Pérez, highlighted that the achievements obtained through this program reflect the commitment of the Government of President Luis Abinader to the students of the public education system.

He indicated that with the attention through the INABIE, Dominican families thousands of pesos are saved in consultations visual health and the acquisition of lenses and treatments for boys, girls and young people.

“From this new management of INABIE, we are committed to continuing to contribute to the well-being of students, through different nutrition and health programs, such as visual,” added the public servant.

Comprehensive care and effective prevention

Through PRONSAVICO, Visual screenings are carried out in educational centers by personnel trained by the INABI Visual Health DivisionE, forming a school detection network with the skills to promptly identify and refer students with visual impairments.

The detected cases are evaluated by specialized medical personnel, who are also responsible for the prescription and delivery of corrective lenses, as well as the performance of optical, clinical and surgical treatments, in order to rehabilitate vision and improve the academic performance of students in the public educational system nationwide.

This program has contributed significantly to improving the quality of life and academic performance of thousands of girls, boys and adolescents, thanks to comprehensive care that includes: training for teachers and educational personnel through practical workshops, for the early detection of possible visual deficiencies.

Likewise, specialized optometric and ophthalmological evaluations, aimed mainly at students in vulnerable conditions, free delivery of corrective lenses, appropriate to the specific needs of each student, and clinical and surgical procedures, when required, guaranteeing equitable access to specialized medical services.

These actions are aimed not only at improving the visual health of schoolchildren, but also at reducing barriers to learning and promoting inclusive, equitable and quality education.
