After a group of violent people in Macchu Picchu town cause damage to some sections of the railway, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Luis Fernando Helguero, announced that they transferred 418 tourists to the city of Cusco.
This transfer was carried out due to a coordinated effort by all the members of the Tourist Protection Network -Mincetur, the Foreign Trade and Tourism Management of Cusco (Gercetur), the National Police, PromPerú, and tourist unions of the Cusco region. -. It was also coordinated with the concessionaire Fetransa, and the railway companies Perurail and IncaRail, which provided all the facilities for the operation.
“I appreciate the coordinated work of the public and private sectors to achieve the identification, location and confirmation of the health status of isolated people. The Tourist Protection Network adds efforts for this safe transfer. In total, 148 foreign tourists and 270 nationals have been mobilized”, highlighted the minister.
The transfer of tourists began in the early afternoon, in two trains. The wagons left from Macchu Picchu town to the Piscacucho station, where buses waited for them to continue the trip to the city of Cusco.
“Peruvianness is also expressed in solidarity work, I offer a special mention to all the members of the tourism value chain in Cusco. All Peruvians of good will must demonstrate that we protect our cultural heritage as a central part of our heritage and national identity and, in the same way, guarantee the safety and quality of the travel experience of all visitors to our country, with special emphasis on Machu Picchu,” said the official.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Culture decided to close the citadel “until further notice”, a measure that applies from today, January 21.
