More than 400 people benefited from the Preventive Day Against Cancer

Santo Domingo. Sunday.- The Social Policy Cabinet and the Rosa Emilia Pérez de Tavarez National Cancer Institute (INCART), successfully concluded the first phase of the preventive day against cancer, which benefited at least 410 people who received medical attention and medicines for deal with the disease and preventive and orientation talks on how to manage this condition.

The first stage of the day took place during the months of October and November of this year, within the framework of an agreement signed by both institutions that brought the Cabinet and INCART teams to the communities of Canta la Rana, Los Tres Brazos. , Los Mina, Ribera del Ozama Dam Area, San Vicente, Los Rosales and Villa Carmen de Santo Domingo Este.

In addition, the monitoring of cases at the headquarters of the Cancer Institute with the logistical support of the Cabinet.

The authorities of both institutions stated that this first stage exceeded the expectations of assistance to people in conditions of social vulnerability, so it is planned to start a second stage as soon as possible that will impact the lives of many more women and men.

During the development of the initiative, the staff of both institutions gave prevention talks and consultations and diagnostic procedures were carried out to those attending the identified points, in addition to consultations with specialist doctors in the areas of breast, cervical and prostate check-ups.

The coordinator of the Cabinet, Tony Peña, reiterated the importance that people in conditions of social vulnerability have access to high-cost drugs and cancer treatments, for which he reiterated the commitment of the institution he leads to this cause.

“This is a disease that has affected my family on several occasions and that is why I personally take care so that people in conditions of social vulnerability do not have to see their loved ones leave due to lack of timely care or medicine timely, ”said Peña.

For her part, the INCART oncology manager emphasized that the only way to reduce the mortality of the disease is by making a timely preventive diagnosis, in that sense, she valued the actions of the Social Policy Cabinet and its coordinator, Tony Peña, in favor of the country’s cancer population and recognized the importance of providing these solutions to people in conditions of social vulnerability with this disease.

Likewise, the Director of Interinstitutional Relations of the Cabinet, Carlos Zapata, added that the mission of the institution is to articulate alliances of social protection to reduce the mortality rates of this disease.

The representatives of both institutions revealed that in the next few days the calendar of the activities contained in the second stage of the actions of the inter-institutional agreement will be published.

It is recalled that the Social Policy Cabinet also gave a donation of around 300 million pesos, the Rosa Emilia Pérez de Tavarez National Cancer Institute (INCART) as part of this same agreement.
