More than 40 hospitalized after an accident this Saturday on the Havana-Melena highway

More than 40 people were hospitalized after the traffic accident this Saturday at kilometer 10 of the Havana-Melena highway.

The event occurred when a bus that was taking travelers from the Isle of Youth to the Cuban capital overturned.

As a result of the accident, four people died, who have already been identified, according to a note of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP)-

They are three women, aged 24, 47 and 68, natural from the Isla de la Juventud, and a 37-year-old man, resident in the Havana municipality of Arroyo Naranjo, reports MINSAP, which also specifies the names of the deceased. .

As for the injured, as of this Saturday night, 45 were hospitalized, 40 of them reported for care and five in serious condition.

The injured adults are treated at the Calixto García, MIguel Enríquez and Carlos Juan Finlay hospitals in Havana, while the minors are at the Juan Manuel Márquez Pediatric Hospital.

The latter are reported for care and are out of danger, according to reports from the official press.

According to MINSAP, “in all cases, patients are cared for by multidisciplinary teams and information is kept for their families.”

In addition, the entity ensures that “resources for medical care are guaranteed in each of the institutions.”

So far, the official cause of the accident has not been confirmed. However, it was reported that the experts were working to determine it.
