LAS AMÉRICAS AIRPORT.- More than three hundred illegal Haitians are arrested daily by members of the General Directorate of Immigration in Greater Santo Domingo, most of them in the National District and Santo Domingo East.
Reports obtained from the official body also indicate that the raids against Haitian nationals residing in the country illegally extend to the municipalities of Los Alcarrizos, Pedro Brand, Bonao, La Vega, San Francisco de Macorís, Constanza and other places.
The arrests of undocumented foreigners are carried out by Migration inspectors in streets, avenues, neighborhoods, barracks, construction sites and in agricultural areas, being taken to the Refuge Center that the agency has in Haina, San Cristóbal.
In that place, the Haitians are purged in order to establish if any of them have documentation and once the verification is completed, the authorities proceed to take them by bus to various points on the border and return them to their native country, Haiti.

“Only in the Metropolitan area and Greater Santo Domino, we are arresting daily more than 300 illegal Haitians, who we return to their country through the various points on the border between the two nations,” agency officials said.
The officials explained that the director of MigrationVenancio Alcántara, has given precise instructions to the inspectors of the agency that carry out the raids, to act always respecting the rights of those arrested, without incurring in any type of excess
“The raids and arrests not only against Haitians, but also against other undocumented foreigners, under the protection of the Migration law that governs our country,” said agency officials.
They declared that even the Director of Immigration has arranged a substantial reduction in favor of foreigners who have expired residences so that they proceed to renew them and indicated that these facilities are being used by people of different nationalities.
It was also said that Venancio Alcántara constantly visits the Refuge Center in Haina.
