Santo Domingo.-The flow of passengers stranded at the Las Américas International Airport (AILA), José Francisco Peña Gómez, has decreased in recent hours after several airlines sent statements via email and their mobile applications, informing about cancellations and rescheduling of flights due to the snow storm that affects different areas of the United States.

Despite these notifications, several passengers claimed to have received the information late or confusingly.

Natalia Cabrera, wife of an affected passenger, explained that they arrived at the airport without clear confirmation about their flight.

“We arrived here at 12 noon and we didn’t know if the 3 o’clock flight was going to leave or if it was canceled. They told us that they would notify us at 2:00, but they don’t send emails. If they notified in time, one would avoid coming here,” he told El Día.

Cabrera indicated that they made a transfer of more than three hours to get to the airport and that they were traveling from Miami to St. Louis, Missouri.

For her part, Dilenia López, a passenger bound for Atlanta, recounted the inconveniences she faced with her itinerary.

“My flight was at 3:43 in the afternoon, then they changed it to 6:15 and when I was waiting they gave me a voucher without telling me that the flight had already been changed again. Now I have the name and date wrong and there is no one to help,” the lady reported because the staff is in high demand due to this situation.

Additional expenses
López assured that the airline only offered him a meal voucher, without reimbursement for the ticket or additional expenses.

“This is uncomfortable. I don’t live in the capital and I have to return to Nagua. All expenses are on me,” he lamented.

Another affected passenger, Jean Charles, explained that he decided to modify his route to avoid areas with greater climatic risks. “My flight was originally yesterday.”

Connecting flights

—Airports
Most of the suspensions correspond to connections with JFK and Newark airports, in New York and New Jersey, as well as Boston, areas severely impacted by the winter storm.

Canceled flights to major cities
Climate. More than 30 flights to and from different cities in the United States were canceled at the Las Américas International Airport (AILA), José Francisco Peña Gómez, due to the strong snow storm that affects several areas of the North American territory, causing significant interruptions in international air traffic.

According to a report issued by Aerodom, the airport’s management company, corresponding to January 24, 25 and 26, 2026, multiple operations were suspended on routes to and from cities such as New York (JFK), Boston (BOS), Newark (EWR) and Miami (MIA).
