At least 33 people died after a bus fell off a bridge over the Nithi River in the Kenyan county of Tharaka-Nithi, located in the center of the country, authorities reported today.
The incident occurred on Sunday night while the bus was covering the route between Mombasa and Meru.
Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner Nobert Komora confirmed that 33 people had died and another 10 had been rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Preliminary information suggests that the driver lost control of the bus after a brake failure, although the investigations are still ongoing, Europa Press published based on information from the local newspaper The Standard.
