From July 1 to Sunday the 17, a total of 254,195 people entered Uruguay as part of the winter holidays.
Of that total, explained the Undersecretary of Tourism, Remo Monzeglio, 180,882 people who entered have Uruguayan nationality. Most of these people returned to Uruguay from Argentinawhich was the main tourist destination due to the favorable exchange difference for Uruguay.
Monzeglio said, in conversation with radio Carve, that the number of Uruguayans who went to Argentina was not a concern. For him, this “is simply a fact of reality.”
“There is an economic situation in Argentina that makes the dollar rise much more than the temperature. We know that there is a big difference in prices, especially in food and entertainment such as outings or going to the theater. We have always said that tourism is a round trip activity. In addition, it generates jobs for travel agencies, carriers, and tour guides, which were a sector that really had a very hard time during the pandemic, ”he explained.
Entry of foreigners
Of the more than 250,000 people who entered Uruguay in July, 42,276 were Argentines and 16,392 Brazilians. 6,715 foreigners of other nationalities also entered, made up of 1,994 Americans, 1,918 Chileans, 14,590 Paraguayans, 1,259 Venezuelans, 809 Spaniards, and 521 Cubans.
According to the data of the National Directorate of Migration From the Ministry of the Interior, the main points of entry were: Paysandú, Colonia, Fray Bentos, Salto, Carrasco International Airport, Port of Montevideo, Chuy, Río Branco and Rivera.
