Illegal mining
One of the problems affecting the sector and its development is illegal mining. In this regard, the president of the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru (IIMP), Darío Zegarra, stated that to eradicate this scourge, political will is needed at all levels of government.
“We must all be vigilant to ensure that there is clear responsibility in the process of formalization, oversight and traceability. And that it does not remain simply in discourse and political will, but that concrete actions are taken to achieve this,” he said.
In this regard, he pointed out that the country cannot develop if there are no conditions to combat crime, guarantee peace, and eradicate the violence that has taken over so many spaces today.
