Between January and August, 2,246 companies stopped export due to internal and external factors, revealed the Association of Exporters (ADEX). According to the union, 96.8% of these businesses are micro and small businesses (MSEs), while 2.3% are large and 0.9% are medium-sized.

Likewise, ADEX specified that although there is a large number that stopped sending products abroad, there are also 2,571 who began selling their products outside the country. This number is 4% higher than that registered in the same period of 2023 (2,472).
In this regard, the director of CIEN-ADEX, Edgar Vásquez Vela, stated that the high mortality of companies – one year they export and the next they stop doing so – should force the State to improve business development policies, it is not only about of Mincetur, but also of Produce, Midagri and other institutions that have important work with small producers.
“The Peruvian productive fabric not only faces the consequences of poor infrastructure. Years go by and the connectivity of the jungle with the coast does not improve; but also citizen insecurity and cumbersome procedures,” he listed.
He added that MSEs sometimes cannot adapt their offer to global demand, they make errors in quotes, they do not know the logistics or legislation of the destination countries and they lack quality seals. “All this contributes to the lack of competitiveness and if the withdrawal of promotional mechanisms is added, it is the perfect formula for mortality to continue increasing,” he emphasized.
