The Summit Municipal Park was the scene of the First Perezoso Fest, held this weekend, on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm The event attracted more than 2,000 visitors, who enjoyed of various activities focused on raising awareness about the protection of sloths and their habitat.
During the festival, families participated in interactive activities, games and educational workshops that allowed adults and children to learn about the importance of protecting these animals and their environment. The event coincided with the celebration of International Sloth Day, which is commemorated on the third Saturday of October each year.
One of the most notable moments was the participation of the sloth “Cocoa”, who served as host of the festival, capturing the attention and amazement of the children, who enjoyed and actively participated in all the activities.
The Perezoso Fest aims to raise awareness among citizens about the threats faced by this species, such as deforestation, hunting and illegal trafficking, and highlight the need to take measures for its protection. The Summit Municipal Park, which houses a specialized enclosure for those sloths that cannot be released into their natural habitat, is consolidated as an environmental education center for the community.
Mayer Mizrachi, mayor of Panama, expressed his satisfaction with the success of the event: «More than 2,000 people visited the Summit, which shows that the park is shining again. “We are working to make Summit a tourist attraction.”
With this type of activities, the Mayor’s Office of Panama continues its effort to promote environmental education and the protection of biodiversity, integrating the community in concrete actions that seek to improve the quality of life in the city.
