The National Police through the National Directorate of Transit Operations through preventive actions day and night in the various streets of the country, has placed 2,017 infractions against drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol so far this year.
Of these sanctions, 1,397 are for proven drunkenness and 620 for driving with alcoholic breath, revealed Lieutenant Joel Gaitán of the Traffic Operations Directorate of the National Police.
For these carnival festivities, where the consumption of alcoholic beverages generally increases, the official recommended respecting traffic signs, avoiding being distracted by electronic devices, using the designated driver, a selective transport or a transport platform in order to avoid accidents due to drive under the influence of alcohol.
The National Police maintains its units deployed throughout the country to preserve road safety and avoid unfortunate events.
