Six people remain hospitalized after attack in Aracruz

The Temporary Commission on the Situation of the Yanomami approved, this Wednesday (8), a work plan drawn up by the collegiate rapporteur, Senator Dr. Hiran (PP-RR). The plan provides for at least two visits by parliamentarians to Roraima and the indigenous territory. Requests for information were also approved. The commission is chaired by Senator Chico Rodrigues (PSB-RR) and has Senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA) as vice-president. More than 19,000 prospectors have left the Yanomami area, says senator

The temporary commission was created to monitor, in Roraima, the situation of the Yanomami and the departure of miners from their lands. The term of operation is 120 days. The commission is composed of eight parliamentarians. According to Chico Rodrigues, more than 19,000 miners have already left the Yanomami indigenous lands in the last 30 days, leaving, according to him, around 800 invaders.

“If in less than 30 days more than 19 thousand [garimpeiros], then, easily, at the most in the month of March, the area will be completely free”, he highlighted. The parliamentarian, however, demanded a permanent presence of the State in the region so that this type of situation does not happen again. what has been happening for the last 30 years will happen. The fact will become recurring. Either the State remains present, with follow-up, inspection and control, or it will be another operation that we will have in the area”, he added.

Requests were also approved for holding public hearings and for the committee’s work to be documented by TV Senado. Indigenous entities will be heard, such as the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) and the Indigenous Missionary Council (Cimi), the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Roraima and the Socioenvironmental Institute (ISA).

Representatives of the Artisanal Mineral Extractivism Cooperative of Roraima, the Garimpeiros Cooperative of Roraima, the National Gold Association (Anoro) and the Union of Companies Distributing Securities in the State of São Paulo (Sindival) will also be heard.

The commission will also hear in public audience ministries such as the Indigenous Peoples; Human rights; Health; Environment; Justice and Public Security; Mines and Energy; Farm and Defense.
