He obtained the fifth highest vote for the Senate of the Republic, but did not remain.
Colombia News.
Gilberto Tobón Sanín, teacher, doctor in Law and Political Science and political analyst, obtained the fifth highest vote in the elections, however, he was unable to secure his position in the Congress of the Republic.
The 72-year-old paisa, a candidate for the Senate for the Citizen Force Party, obtained about 170,000 votes, however his party did not reach the threshold necessary to recognize legal status.

Gilberto Tobón, Colombian politician.
In these elections the threshold was around 488,368 thousand votes.
It should be noted that for both the Senate and the House of Representatives, their candidates have to exceed the threshold of 3% of the entire vote in order to receive seats.
Fuerza Ciudadana, a party that he founded in the company of Carlos Caicedo, who previously also belonged to the Historical Pact, recorded a total of 439,596 votes of the approximately 488,368 valid votes that had been established, that is, 2.7% of the 3% required.
This is why Tobón, despite having an excellent vote, will not hold a position as Senator of the Republic.
After his defeat, Gilberto Tobón thanked the more than 173,000 people who entrusted him with their vote and many others who have always supported him.
I want to thank the more than 173,000 people who entrusted me with their vote for the Senate, and the thousands of others who have supported me and continue to believe that a better country is possible.
You can count on me to continue to unite the country around justice, equality and peace. Thank you!

“Regardless of the final results, I remain firm on what I shared in the campaign that it is not with corrupt machinery that the country is changed. Thanks again to everyone who joined me in this beautiful project for the great vote we got, “he added in another tweet.

For many, it is a pity that a candidate with such a large vote is not today an Elected Senator of the Republic.
With the 130,000 votes of Gilberto Tobón and the 390,000 of Fuerza Ciudadana, if they were in the Historic Pact, we would have gotten 10 more senators, but since they went to divide the votes, they did not reach the threshold (440,000). Many just maturing and learning about the electoral mechanics

Others criticize the electoral system for that threshold item for seats.
It is incredible that someone like Gilberto Tobón Sanín with more than 100,000 votes cannot reach Congress because of that stupidity of the threshold of the seats.
