The authorities of Spain and Barcelona began investigations to determine the causes of the train crash. The accident occurred when a train that was traveling to the city of Barcelona collided from behind with another that was going to the same place and that was at the Montcada station.
At least 155 people were injured this Wednesday, December 7, after registering the collision of two trains in Spain, an incident registered near the Montcada i Reixac station; in the province of Barcelona.
This was reported by the Medical Emergency System (SEM) of Spain, an organization that indicated that the majority of the injured are minor. However, they counted five people with injuries of some seriousness and so far no deaths have been reported.
The SEM activated 18 teams to assess the incident at the accident site and carried out the transfer of several injured to nearby health centers, while the Generalitat Fire Brigade helped to evacuate and mobilize the injured passengers.

The state railway company Renfe pointed out that the accident occurred when a train that was traveling towards the city of Barcelona rear-ended another that was going to the same place and that was at the Montcada station.
The affected trains covered the Renfe commuter line R4, whose circulation was paralyzed, like that of two other lines, in both directions. An hour and a half later they were reopened.
Raquel Sánchez, Minister of Transport of Spain, went to the Montcada i Reixac station to learn about the situation of the injured and said that this is an “isolated” incident.

He clarified that one of the trains was making a maneuver to stop when the crash occurred.
This is the third train crash that has been recorded in the province of Barcelona so far this year. The first of these occurred in mid-May, when a cargo vehicle collided with a passenger vehicle that caused one death and 86 injuries.
A month later, in June, a locomotive collided with a Renfe train near the town of Villa-Seca, causing at least 30 injuries.
