During the 2024-2025 school year, the Ministry of Popular Power for Education, through the Military Communal Brigades for Education and Health (Bricomiles), has rehabilitated a total of 1,415 educational institutions throughout the country, with the aim of guaranteeing optimal spaces to offer quality education to children and adolescents, the Vice Minister of Facilities and Logistics, Willian Gil.
In an interview granted to the “In Air” program, which is transmitted by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), the president of the foundation of educational buildings and endowments (Fede) said that during the holiday period efforts have joined with all levels of government to serve other additional schools.
The works include waterproofing, repair of electrical systems, installation of luminaires, recovery of green, sanitary and kitchen areas, paint work, as well as provision of furniture and equipment.
He also explained that the educational institutions affected by heavy rains in the states of Mérida, Apure, Bolívar, Monagas, among others, are given priority, in order to be fully operational for the start of the new school year, scheduled for September 15.
The vice minister stressed that the rehabilitation of educational institutions has had a positive impact on the increase in school enrollment. “Last year we started classes with 5,570,942 students, and this year we have reached 5,936,006. That is, 365,000 children joined the educational system,” he said.
He also indicated that they work to guarantee 100% of schooling, looking for those children who are not within the school system, even those who have recently entered the country. “For the new school year, it is expected to add more than 500,000 students to the national education system … we have the installed capacity to serve all the children we are going to enter,” he said.
On the other hand, he said that for the 2025-2026 school year we work on the construction of 25 schools, one in each state of the country, as well as explained that the resources to rehabilitate 500 educational institutions were approved next year.
SCHOOL FOOD PROGRAM
In relation to the School Food Program (PAE), Deputy Minister Willian Gil reported that during this school year an increase of more than 36% in food distribution was achieved.
“Next to the Ministry of Food, we go from distributing 5,494,43 metric tons to 7,510.99 metric tons of food, guaranteeing a balanced diet, in quantity and quality, for our children,” he said.
