More than 13 tons of drugs seized in Zulia and Nueva Esparta

Two operations carried out in the states of Zulia and Nueva Esparta dealt a heavy blow to the Organized Crime Groups (GEDO) by seizing more than 13 tons of drugs.

This was highlighted by the national anti-drug superintendent (Sunad), Richard Lopez Vargas through his account on the social network Twitter, who confirmed that the security agencies are working to keep the country free of drug trafficking groups.

“Safe and drug-free homeland! With 2 operations in Zulia and Nueva Esparta, more than 13 tons of drugs were seized, a heavy blow to the Organized Crime Groups (GEDO) and their failed attempt to threaten the peace and dignity of the Venezuelan people,” published the newspaper. Superintendent.

Dismantled drug camps

In this regard, the Superintendent stressed that to execute Operation “Lightning of Catatumbo 2023”, in the municipality of Jesús María Semprúm, in the state of Zulia, two thousand soldiers were deployed between the Catatumbo River and the San Benito sector. There, six camps with three laboratories used for the crystallization of cocaine hydrochloride were dismantled.

It also reported that they seized “a large quantity of war weapons and explosives and incinerated at the site 12,388 KGS of base paste, 6,780 liters and 6,360 Kgs of precursor chemical substances for the manufacture of drugs.”

In these operations they also seized: 12,400 liters of Jet-A1 type fuel, 755 ammunition, 1,600 machine gun links, 235 explosive fuses and two long-range drones.

In addition, 60 improvised explosive devices were seized, 33 long-arms chargers, ten 60-mm mortar grenades, seven machine gun cannons, four laboratories, two 60-mm homemade mortars and a 40-mm grenade launcher, explained the head of the Strategic Operational Command of the FANB (Ceofanb), Domingo Hernández Lárez.

The Ceofanb carries out these actions throughout the national territory to guarantee national sovereignty and territorial integrity, added Hernández Lárez.

After the operation, the case was made available to the Prosecutor’s Office number 16 of the Public Ministry (MP), Superintendent López Vargas reported.

Operation in Nueva Esparta

On the other hand, in a joint operation between the National Anti-drug Command (CNA), the Coastal Surveillance Command and the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (DGCIM) in the state of Nueva Esparta, it was possible to intercept a boat, which contained “23 packages where they were hiding 969 kg of marijuana”.

“Meanwhile, through a joint military operation, the National Anti-drug Command (CNA), the Coastal Surveillance Command, and the #dgcim in the state of Nueva Esparta, they intercepted 1 fishing boat with 23 packages containing 969 kg of marijuana,” said the Superintendent.

Great results: civic-military-police union

For Superintendent Richard López Vargas, the civic-military-police union is essential to deal accurate blows to drug trafficking.

In this regard, he emphasized that the operations carried out in Zulia and Nueva Esparta achieved great results. He highlighted an increase of 114.83% in the number of seizures in relation to the year 2022, since there are 21,594.478 kilograms of drugs seized in 2,244 procedures with 2,956 detainees throughout the country.

“We highlight the civic-military-police union to achieve these great results that to date add up to 21,594,478 KGS of drugs in 2,244 procedures with 2,956 detainees throughout the country, with an increase of 114.83% in the number of seizures in relationship of the year 2022 ”, he explained.

Faced with these operatives by the security and anti-drug agencies, they will continue to fight drug trafficking and criminal groups that intend to establish these practices in the national territory.
