MIAMI, United States. — A total of 106,191 Cubans entered the United States through the southern border between October and December 2022, according to statistics of the Office of Customs and Border Protection.
The record indicates that in October, the first month of fiscal year 2023, 28,847 migrants arrived from the Island; in November the figure reached 34,707 and in December it shot up to 42,637.
Of the total number of Cubans who entered the United States in those three months, 75,130 were single adults, 30,025 made up family nuclei, and 1,034 were unaccompanied minors.
The number of Cubans who entered the northern country through the southern border between October and November 2022 increased more than five times compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year, when only 20,487 arrived through the border.
Since the Nicaraguan regime decreed the free entry of Cubans to its territory, 327,099 nationals of the Caribbean country entered US territory, in what is considered the largest exodus of Cubans to the US on record.
The migratory crisis also takes place in the Straits of Florida. During fiscal year 2022, the US Coast Guard intercepted 6,183 Cubans who tried to reach the country by sea. So far in 2023, the figure already amounts to more than 5,000.
Despite the high numbers reported by the US authorities, the illegal migratory flow of Cubans to the United States could stop as a result of the new humanitarian parole program to which the nationals of the Island can apply.
With the new measure, Washington seeks to stimulate legal, safe and orderly entry into the US, while increasing restrictions on the southern border.
