The National Tax Administration Office (ONAT) of Cuba confirmed that the audits carried out since last June indicated the existence of a debt of taxpayers with that entity that amounts to 1,577 million pesos (CUP), according to official media.
The hole in the coffers of the tax entity was detected during the execution of the Program to Confront Non-Compliance and Tax Evasion, with which it was possible to verify that only 500 million CUP corresponding to that amount have been collected so far, according to reports an office of the Cuban News Agency (ACN).
Data of a report disclosed on the agency’s website specify that until last August more than 338,200 taxpayers had not paid their taxes on Personal Income and on Sales and Services.
Of that number, a total of 154,103 people were subjected to investigation, and 124,190 were also confirmed as debtors, the information underlines.

According to the official communication, the largest number of defaulters with the treasury have residence in the provinces of Havana, Guantánamo, Holguín and Sancti Spíritus.
During the investigations, 34,094 taxpayers were identified who have not submitted their affidavits or made the annual settlement of taxes on Personal Income, Utilities and Non-Tax Income, of which 5,398 were fined, indicates the ACN.
Other tax irregularities were identified in the transfer of the property, as it was found that 6,017 buyers did not pay the Tax, and 10,734 sellers have not paid the personal income tax.
When analyzing the information sent by the banking system, the ONAT found that 979 taxpayers should have paid 31 million pesos for taxes, and only paid 16 million, according to the report.
These taxpayers received income from various sources, which were not taken into account in the calculation of their taxes and, therefore, they underreported the amount that they were required to pay to ONAT by law.
According to the information, the current check-up and control program was deployed with the aim of boosting income to the Budget of the State. As part of it, more than 122,800 actions have been carried out on non-compliance with current obligations in the fiscal field of natural and legal persons.
