More police units will move to Chiriquí this Monday for evacuations and distribution of belongings, confirms Pino

The indirect effects caused by Hurricane Julia, now a tropical storm, caused heavy rains that caused the flooding of rivers, streams and landslides in various parts of the province of Chiriquí, during this weekend.

According to the authorities, the most affected points were Paso Ancho, Nueva Suiza, Bambito, Las Perlas, Cerro Punta and Tierras Altas; in this last district, the evacuation of about 200 people was carried out.

The evacuations were carried out towards the Paso Ancho and Fernando Eleta Almarán schools, located in the Cerro Punta corregimiento, detailed the National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC), through a statement.

“More National Police personnel are on their way to reinforce with more police and try to patrol these areas, to see the damage and rescue human lives,” said the Minister of Public Security, Juan Manuel Pino, about the actions to be carried out this Monday.

Pino expressed that they acted on time, there are no injuries and there is no life to mourn. “It is very important that the population has understood to mobilize in time,” he added.
