In Mexico, more people died from heart disease, diabetes and tumors during the first half of 2024. That is, from January to June 417 thousand 408 deaths were recorded, which represented an increase of 12 thousand 683 deaths (3.1 percent) with respect to Of 2023, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) revealed.
Yesterday he announced the preliminary figures of the statistics of deaths recorded in the referred months; The data that make up these records were provided by 4,559 informants. They showed that death trends in the country have returned to normal
after the pandemic and the profile of diseases of the Mexican population.
After Tuesday, he announced the homicide statistics in the country to the first semester of 2024, complemented the information of causes of death. Thus, deaths due to cardiac evils were the first cause in the country within the 10 main, both at general and by sex.
The rate per 100,000 inhabitants was similar to that of 2020 (77.6), with 100 thousand 710 cases. Meanwhile, in 2023 97 thousand 328 deaths were counted. The largest number of deaths by cardiac evils was recorded in men, when registering 53 thousand 515 cases in the first half of 2024; In 2023 there were 51 thousand 275.
In women, a rise also occurred, from 46 thousand 44 to 47 thousand 187 female deaths in the reference period.
Inegi estimated that the second cause of death in Mexico was diabetes, with 57 thousand 986 deaths, in which the female sector of the population presented the greatest cases, with 29 thousand 206 compared to 28,777 deaths in men. The rate per 100,000 inhabitants was similar to that of 2019 (44.7).
According to the preliminary statistics of the first half of 2024, women die more than malignant tumors (24 thousand 896) than men (22 thousand 542), to add, for this aspect, 47 thousand 439 deaths. The three main causes added 206 thousand 135 deaths in the first half of last year, which explains 49.38 percent of the total deaths in that period.
Thus, of the total deaths recorded preliminary, 44.3 percent were women and 55.6 percent of men. In 208 cases (0.1 percent) sex was not specified.
