Third scanner for export, import and transit control arrived in Uruguay
This week, the third state-of-the-art scanner arrived at the Port of Montevideo. It will control exports, imports and transits, and will allow Uruguay to advance in the process of controlling the flow of goods entering and leaving the national territory. The equipment, which will be operated by the National Customs Directorate (DNA), will provide services at different points throughout the country.
The device, transported on board the ship Grande Buenos Aires, was received at the Port of Montevideo by the national director of Customs, Jaime Borgiani, according to a statement from the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
“The arrival of this technology allows the Government to deepen its fight against drug trafficking, something that has been a priority for this administration because it constitutes a specific measure with regard to improving public safety,” the organization said.
The equipment will join the two scanners that arrived in Uruguay in June and will operate 24 hours a day. The third one will provide services at different points throughout the country, while the remaining two will be permanently located in the Port of Montevideo.
The acquisition was made in a tender awarded to the company S2 Global INC, in 2023, which involves the contracting of a Non-Intrusive X-ray Inspection service for cargo and vehicles, for customs control purposes, reported the MEF.
The new equipment is expected to start operating in the coming weeks, and both the operation and maintenance of the image interpretation software will be carried out by customs officials.
